The day of many events (30.09.2008)

Many events I say? Not really. It's just that any other day has been completely uneventful. The beautiful sunny day started with waking up (always a drag) and then having to run (literally) to catch the bus (not so fun that either). I actually took the time to take a picture, before I realized I was dead late and did said running to catch the bus (who actually was on time... How's that for ya.. You catch a bus several times a week, keeps coming 15 minutes late, if it shows up, and here it is on time... )School was nice though, we had a lecture on Australian Art (Dr. Laini Burton style), and we headed for the botanical gardens (<--- capitalized or not? Julie said not.. :P ) Gorgeous, exiting and funny would still describe it. Trees as big as , but no worries! They were sleeping, and I was climbing all over them :)

Apart from trees, they were beautiful flowers (kind of self-implied isn't it, when you go to a botanical garden), scary birds (Julie's still afraid of birds) and extremely cool crawly thingies (see picture for closer classification). I got to do some more tree-hugging (Samad) and we got to meet the world's first Macadamia planted for cultivation. Coolest 142-year old I've ever met. After the gardens we headed off to West End for food and enjoyment. Found a cute Asian restaurant in Boundary Street, were Julie ordered Beef and shallot sumfin sumfin, and I ordered Beef in Oyster sauce. Gotta love it ;) Headed to Avid Reader (book store in Boundary Street) and got lost (in a good way) in all the books. I figured I should just buy a mattress and move in there. I wouldn't even need a mattress, I would be sleeping on clouds anyway (being in a book store and all). And yes, I did buy more books.Anyway, (this is my third paragraph starting with an A..), we were at the book store for a reason (besides buying books that is): Contemporary Australian author were meeting us all to talk about (we still don't really know what he was supposed to talk about..), but anyway, his book(s) and person etc.

How can I even begin to describe what he had left in the hearts of his listeners? (Don't get cocky now Nicky :P ). He left the best images of a park-walking story-telling medical-advice-giving armchair-costume-wearing author I've ever seen. What I would have given to see it with my own eyes.. I will just have to search for any material he has written (I hear his poems are great!) to see if he has put any of those armchair feelings into print.

You know what else is fascinating about this author (some would even say creepy, I still say fascinating.) He gets Google Alerts for every time someone writes his name on the net (hence my evil blog post last night). And because he's nice (read: he wants to boast his skills in the Internet world), he told us about this last night. (And at the same time saying he's already been here (because I wrote his name earlier, and he found out))

So my point is, NE (with his extreme skills) is like a genie. He comes when you call him. (He would probably say: "Well, I'm curious.." and I would say: "Well, he doesn't have a life..") Unlike a genie though, he does not grant you three wishes.

Bummer.

But he writes books though, which is kinda the same thing. And, did I mention he comes when you call? Oooh Niiicky! Nick Earls! Over here!

*will stop.. soon.. I'm just having too much fun :)*
