Great Barrier Reef

How long have I not wanted to post a blog with that title? After cold Japan, Cairns was a great spot to come to and having the opportunity to scuba dive on the reef wasn't all too bad either. The bus ride to the boat was quite amusing as well: The driver could not stop shuffling out jokes to the the lot of us, some bad, but some fun as well. We passed the cemetery where the inventor of the crossword was buried (three down and four across), and we had a stop by Jurassic Park to pick up some other hotel guests. I think Julie enjoyed the ride, I slept for most of it, but we both arrived at Port Douglas save and sound.

The boat ride was fun as well, loads of people getting nauseous and some serious waves at a point. The highlight was when the heavens opened and poured down all the water that seems to be missing from the Brisbane reservoirs. It rained. Heavily. Or heavenly.. :P

When we arrived at Agincourt reef at a stationary platforms set up for the Quicksilver boats to use. We ate our lunch there (I think everyone was pretty hungry at this stage), and we got out scuba gear on: wetsuits (with hoods), snorkels, masks and feet. I don't know what Julie did, but I slightly recall seeing here in the water in the vicinity of a large fish.. I had fun testing out my underwater camera and took some shots of silly-looking Norwegians in the water.

We did not get eaten by jellyfish or sharks, but got on the boat back and freshened up for a sec before heading out. Julie went for Mexican again, and I apparently mixed up the days.. Because this was the day I had Indian and yesterday was the day I had dinner at 7/11 :P
