And I will repeat myself: Yes, it is a country. It is located in the South Pacific and the island nation receives about 80.000 tourists every year. (Neighboring country Fiji receives about 1 million).
Our first day was all about experiencing the local life. Landing at the Airport was funny in itself.. hadn't it been for all the funky colors the airport was painted in, I would have believed we were back in Norway (the airport was smaller than Vigra..) We were greeted by a string band at the airport, saw a bush base for the first time and were troublelessly (I know its not a word) admitted into the country. We found our transport, met our driver (he gave us necklaces with pretty shells on them)and then we sat down to wait for the others going to the same hotel.
You know how stupid Americans can be sometimes? And you think that only Americans can be so stupid? The family that traveled with us to our hotel asked the driver twice (sic!) whether they could use Australian dollars in Vanuatu or not. (The local currency is the Vatu) Julie wanted to tap the driver on the shoulder as well and ask if we could use Norwegian Kroner in Vanuatu... Just to set the example for the stupid tourist lady :P
